Saturday, January 17, 2009

BRUNEI'S futsal club Shah United (pic) will be flying the flag at today's Cheras Jaya FC Academy Invitationl Futsal Tournament at the Soccer Arena in Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur. They are the sole Bruneian team in the competition.

The five other teams in the tournament are all from Malaysia: Cheras Jaya FC A, Cheras Jaya FC B, the Royal Malaysian Air Forces (TUDM), Junior FC and Futsal Academy FC.

The 10 Shah United players and three officials were invited to participate by the organisers.

"For me the exposure the team will get is important," said team manager Hj Syed Md Yaqub in a Press release issued on Thursday before their flight to Kuala Lumpur.

"Though our players are not very experienced, they have taken part in friendlies and competed in tournaments in Labuan, Sabah and Sarawak," he added.

Those comments were echoed by the team's coach, Md Sufri Tanjong, who said he prepared his players both physically and mentally for the tournament. "Winning or losing is not important. What is important is the experience and exposure they will get."(JT04) The Brunei Times
